Submission guidelines: Writing a guest post for TravelEater.net

Many thanks for your interest in writing a guest post for TravelEater.net. If you would like to contribute a guest post, please make sure you read this page carefully and respond accordingly. 
You have two options: a Globavore Interview or a general guest post.  For the Globavore interviews, send me a message (contact info) and let me know why you think you’d be a good candidate for the interview (i.e. tell me your food and travel cred).  For a regular guest post, please see below.
For me to publish a guest post, I need a story (no listicles please). It needs to be a story that draws readers in and is compelling so they want to know more and keep reading. It also needs to give them enough information so that they can follow in your footsteps.  Proposing a headline is not a story pitch. Note that I’m very picky about quality of writing and grammar.  You can focus on travel or food, but both need to be mentioned.
Pitch me a story idea and tell me why you think it should be published on TravelEater.net. Do not send me a topic or a headline; explain your story idea. Do not send full articles before I have approved a pitch. In your pitch email, also tell me how you would promote your story through your website and your social media channels.

Once we have agreed on a story, please submit your work by email — include the text in the body of the email (with hyperlinks and with URLs typed separately) and attach the photos. Send to TravelEater.Info @ gmail . com. You can also use Google Drive. Please don’t embed the photos in your text or send me a Word attachment. Please put all information, including your bio, in one email.

Depending on the length of your post, I will need 3-5 photos that you have the rights to publish (preference for your own photos, if you don’t have them, please explain why). Each photo needs to be under 1MB. I’ll need a caption and attribution info for each photo.

Please include a bio of about 1 paragraph, with links your personal website and other social media sites. You can include a photo of yourself if you like.

I’m all for showcasing stuff you love and think others would want to try, but if anything you submit comes across as too much like an advertisement, I will either adjust the wording or not publish it. I may also remove links you suggest in your article.  If your request looks like spam or is essentially to put a free ad on my website, I’ll ignore your email.

I can’t guarantee that I will publish your post — it needs to meet my quality standards.

Note: I get a lot of requests asking for the opportunity to write a guest post on topics that have little or nothing to do with travel and food, requests that are clearly copies of what is sent to many other websites, and requests that are really just asking me to publish a free ad for their business. On top of that, many of these are poorly written, full of typos and grammatical errors. Many give no indication of legitimacy because they are signed by a first name only and have no links to their own website and social media accounts. I won’t respond to any of these types of requests. You need to prove to me that you’re not a spammer. The key way to do that is to follow all the instructions I give here.

  23. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism
    or copyright violation? My blog has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either written myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it
    is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any methods to help prevent content from being
    ripped off? I’d certainly appreciate it.

    • It is a problem as there are many unethical people. I ask the offending website to remove my content or pay a republishing fee, and if they don’t comply, my lawyer pursues it with them.
      A greater problem is people wanting me to publish “guest posts” which are really duplicate advertising copy.
