Sustainable tourism: Easy ways to be a responsible tourist

Amused at the tourists, Pingyao. Lowres photo by Johanna Read TravelEater.netCurious about sustainable tourism? I’m thrilled that I got to write about it for USA Today: What is the meaning of sustainable tourism?

It’s not tough to be a responsible tourist, it just means being aware of how your actions affect the people who live in the place you’re visiting.  I’d love it if you checked it out and shared widely!

What do you do to help make tourism more sustainable? I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments below.

If you’re looking for more, I have tons of articles on my Responsible / Sustainable Tourism page. Just a few examples: avoiding scams, trekking with mountain gorillas, international etiquette for public displays of affection, travel and terrorism, protecting cultures, and hotels that you can feel good about staying in.
